Interview with Bojana Dukic, Senior Buyer at Logiss

The strategic role of procurement and the female presence in the metalworking industry

Can you tell us about your professional background and how you came to hold the position of Senior Buyer at Logiss?

My professional journey has progressively developed in the procurement sector, starting from operational roles and gradually taking on strategic responsibilities. At Logiss, I found a dynamic and stimulating environment where managing procurement and supplier relationships is crucial to ensuring efficiency and competitiveness.

What are the main challenges in managing procurement in a metalworking company like Logiss?

Procurement management in a metalworking company requires balancing quality, costs, and delivery times. The main challenges involve selecting reliable suppliers, managing fluctuations in raw material prices, and maintaining a constant supply flow. Additionally, adopting effective negotiation strategies and fostering strong relationships with business partners is essential.

What is the strategic value of the procurement department for a company like Logiss?

The procurement department is not just an operational function but plays a strategic role in enhancing the company's competitiveness. Selecting the right suppliers, ensuring material quality, and optimizing procurement costs directly contribute to the company’s profitability. Moreover, careful management of stock and supplies is essential to guarantee production continuity and mitigate risks related to supply chain disruptions.

In a traditionally male-dominated sector like metalworking, how do you see the role of women in strategic positions like yours?

The presence of women in the metalworking sector is growing, though it remains an evolving reality. Women in leadership roles, like mine, demonstrate that competence, determination, and management skills have no gender. The main challenge is overcoming stereotypes and proving one's value in the field by bringing an innovative approach and a strategic vision that enriches the company.

What advice would you give to a young professional who wants to pursue a career in procurement in the industrial sector?

I would recommend investing in continuous education, developing analytical and negotiation skills, and building a strong professional network. It’s essential to be curious, open to innovation, and ready to tackle challenges with determination. Additionally, the ability to work in a team and manage complex situations is fundamental to succeeding in this sector or any other.

How do you see the future of procurement, and what will be the main evolutions in the coming years?

The procurement sector is evolving toward greater digitalization and sustainability. The adoption of digital procurement tools, data-driven decision-making, and a focus on sustainable sourcing are growing trends. Furthermore, supply chain resilience has become a crucial aspect, especially after recent global crises. Those who can adapt to these changes and integrate new strategies will have a significant competitive advantage.

Is there a message you would like to share with those working in the sector and those aspiring to roles like yours?

My message is to believe in your abilities and not be discouraged by difficulties. Competence, commitment, and passion for your work are the elements that make the difference. In a sector like metalworking, innovation and adaptability are fundamental: those who can interpret change and lead it with a strategic vision will always play a key role in business success.
