Overview

AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots) are an evolution of AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles) and LGVs (Laser Guided Vehicles). In the past, the guidance systems used for these vehicles were based on lasers, which allowed them to position themselves along predefined paths. Such systems dominated the handling industry, particularly for pallet transport, from the 1980s until around 2020, when the first AMRs were produced in China, marking a significant change in automated handling technologies.

Applications

The evolution of consumption patterns and the growing demand for customization have necessitated the adoption of more versatile storage and handling systems. AMRs, with their ability to navigate dynamic environments and interact with other systems, are the ideal solution for handling the growing variety of packages and products. Their integration into logistics processes optimizes picking, packing and storage operations, improving both productivity and accuracy.

With numerous models available, AMRs meet a wide range of needs, including:

  • STORAGE OF CARTONS AND TOTES
  • HANDLING OF PALLETS, CARTONS AND CRATES

Handling and storage with AMR

The increasing demand for individual parcels in the large-scale retail trade and e-commerce has made traditional pallet storage systems obsolete. To meet this new demand, companies have adopted more flexible and automated solutions, such as AMRs. These mobile robots are able to handle both the storage and handling of packages and pallets, ensuring high adaptability and versatility in different working environments.

Thanks to their ability to operate autonomously and collaboratively, AMRs have revolutionized intralogistics, improving process efficiency and reducing costs.

Smart solutions

To meet the growing demand for smart solutions and the increase in box and crate handling operations, companies have so far adopted answers of increasing complexity and cost:

  • MINILOAD SYSTEMS Medium-sized movements
  • MULTISHUTTLE SYSTEMS Large-scale movements
  • AUTOSTORE SYSTEMS Multi-channel storage systems

In addition to these solutions today:

  • AMR SYSTEMS Smart and highly flexible systems

Automating warehouses without infrastructure

Totem AMRs are the ideal solution for automating traditional warehouses, without the need for new infrastructure, with low investment and maximum flexibility.
These robots can easily navigate narrow aisles and perform doubledeep storage and retrieval operations, thanks to grid navigation.

Advantages

  • SCALABILITY: ability to add or remove units according to changes in demand.
  • MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY: ability to quickly and easily pick several cartons or totes simultaneously.
  • HIGH PRODUCTIVITY: each robot can handle a large number of cartons or totes, guaranteeing 100% positioning accuracy.
  • INTEGRATIVE VERSATILITY: easily integrated with other handling solutions to create complex and highly customized logistics systems.

a 360° rotating gripper, and integrated static bays for temporary storage of totes.
This configuration offers exceptional operational flexibility, optimizing picking, depositing and work centre operations.
Unlike traditional systems, totem AMRs are not tied to fixed structures, allowing optimal use of space and easy integration with other equipment.
Their modularity also makes it possible to gradually scale up the automation, adapting it to changing production needs.

Range and versatility

The totem AMRs are characterized by a solid structure and the use of state-of-the-art electronic components, which guarantee high performance in terms of speed, precision and reliability.
Thanks to the different configurations available, which vary in terms of load capacity, picking height and capacity to handle the number of totes, it is possible to optimize handling and storage operations, adapting them to the specific needs of each customer.
